I am so excited to be a part of Cervical Cancer Day On The Hill. This event is important for so many reasons.
First, Cervical Cancer is a deadly disease that takes too many lives. But, you aren't hearing about it. As many of you know that's one of the main reasons I started this blog and talk about my battle with anyone who will listen. Far too many people are simply uneducated about cervical cancer. People think its, "no big deal" or dont understand how easy it is to contract the deadly virus HPV that leads to cervical cancer. They aren't aware that cervical cancer treatments are horrendous and leave fighters with side effects sometimes to horrific to mention. And most importantly people don't realize that cervical cancer kills, It kills young and old women of all ethnicity's in all corners of the world.
Secondly, I am thrilled to meet so many wonderful men and woman who are passionate about raising cervical cancer awareness. There will be survivors, supporters and advocates all gathering for the same purpose and I will be a part of that.
Thirdly, we will all have an opportunity to share with our representatives the importance of cervical cancer. We will advocate for increased federal funding for cervical cancer prevention, detection and treatment.
I will take pictures and notes so that I can share my experience with all of you!
Check out Tamika and Friends for more information about Cervical Cancer Day On The Hill.
I agree...all cancer is a bad thing, glad you here trying to educate people/women!
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS Saturday Sharefest!
Meaghan,
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and love your organization Sprit Jump. This year I have the honor of not only being a team captain at my church but also being vice-event chair to our local Relay for Life. This year I would love to have a booth set up for Sprit Jump where Relay participants can send a note or a card to the jumpees. Begining stages of planning here but my first thought would be to set up posters with information on your program and some jumpees stories and pics. First i wanted to get your take on the best way to go about this, and what will be the best way to get the notes and cards out. The relay event will not be held until May 7 & 8 2010 so no real huge rush here but i wanted to get this ball rolling. If you are interested please just drop me an e-mail at ford126@knology.net.
Thank You
Laura Ford

Hi, my name is Sonia and I am a cervical cancer survivor. I am 44 years old and last year I was dignosed with cervical cancer stage 1B. I was also diagnosed HPV+ and when my doctor told me about HPV, I was what the heck is HPV.. I have never heard of it before in my 44 years. Amazing as it sounds, it is true...I felt betrayed by all the doctors I had seen before, and I felt betrayed by all the people that never mentioned it to me. As soon as it sinked in my brain, I started reading and now I talk about it to all my friends and family.
ReplyDeleteI had a radical hysterectomy after a week of being diagnosed and six weeks after I went through 30 radiation sessions and 4 chemo treatments. I was lucky enough to be in the hands of 2 great doctors, that are my husbands friends and the fact that I had a great insurance thought work. It has been a year and 2 months now and all my paps come clean. I still go to check ups every 6 months. I have posted in my blog and I will keep posting it.
I think is very important to talk about it in schools and to young teenagers.
